And here's a breakdown of each individual movie in greater detail.
1. Ghostbusters: Afterlife
Director Jason Reitman steps into his father Ivan's shoes to continue the Ghostbusters legacy. This latest instalment of the spook-battling franchise is a direct sequel to the original films from 1984 and 1989, in which one family discovers a remarkable Ghostbusters legacy in their newly purchased farmhouse. Paul Rudd stars as a teacher with memories of that all-important day in New York when the Ghostbusters first fought evil.
2. Encanto
Walt Disney Animation Studios presents its first South American fable: a Columbian-based musical with songs from Hamilton's Lin-Manuel Miranda.
3. West Side Story
Steven Spielberg's latest is an all-singing, all-dancing remake of the classic, Oscar-winning 1961 musical. Stephen Sondheim and Leonard Bernstein's infectious show tunes promise to get a new lease of life with Spielberg at the helm, and the fresh-faced young cast is led by Baby Driver's Ansel Elgort as Jet leader Tony.
4. Spider-Man: No Way Home
Tom Holland is set to swing high in his third solo movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Plot details are thin on the ground, but we can expect it to continue the shock revelations of 2019 blockbuster Far Far Home, which culminated in Spidey's identity being leaked to the entire world. Zendaya is returning as MJ, and director Jon Watts is back behind the camera.
5. The King's Man
Director Matthew Vaughn presents the action-packed prequel to the hit Kingsman spy series. Set in the early 20th century, the film shows us how the innocuous Savile Row tailors shop (Oxfords, not Brogues, remember) first became the front for the daredevil Kingsman spy agency. Ralph Fiennes and Harris Dickinson replace Colin Firth and Taron Egerton, with the cast also including Gemma Arterton, Djimon Hounsou and Rhys Ifans.
6. The Matrix Resurrections
Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss return as Neo and Trinity in the fourth instalment of the Matrix saga. Given that 2003's Matrix Revolutions concluded with the death of both characters, we're curious to know how the story will develop. Nevertheless, with Lana Wachowski back at the helm and the rumoured inclusion of younger Morpheus, there are plenty of reasons to be excited.
7. Scream
The dreaded Ghostface killer is back to stalk the inhabitants of Woodsboro in the latest instalment of self-aware horror. Following director Wes Craven's death in 2015, Ready or Not helmers Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett now take over. Series veterans Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox and David Arquette all return to battle the deranged killer with a love of horror movies, but who could it be this time? The movie is due in January 2022.
8. Morbius
Sony's Marvel Universe continues to expand with this Jared Leto-starring superhero adventure. He plays the titular Morbius, a doctor who gains vampiric abilities and then decides to use them to fight evil. It remains to be seen how the film will connect to the earlier Venom, starring Tom Hardy, and also the Tom Holland Spider-Man movies. That said, we do get a shot of a Spidey mural in the trailer graffitied with the word 'murderer' – a clear sign that Morbius takes place after Far From Home's conclusion.
9. Uncharted
Naughty Dog's deliriously enjoyable console adventure game has had a bumpy ride getting to the big screen. We've been waiting patiently for adventurer Nathan Drake, a kind of proto-Indiana Jones, to make his cinema debut. And in 2021, it's set to pay off, with Spider-Man himself, Tom Holland, taking on the role of Nathan. Mark Wahlberg plays Victor Sullivan in this prequel to the games, with Zombieland's Ruben Fleischer directing. Meanwhile, Iron Man duo Art Marcum and Matt Holloway are on scripting duties.
10. Death on the Nile
Director Kenneth Branagh returns to the sumptuous realm of the Agatha Christie mystery, adapting one of the author's most famous stories. When a Nile river cruise is interrupted by a violent death, vacationing detective Hercule Poirot must leap into action before the killer strikes again. Branagh once again stars as the impressively moustachioed Poirot, with the impressive supporting cast including Gal Gadot, Armie Hammer and Annette Bening.
11. The Batman
Back in 2005, director Christopher Nolan revitalised the Batman franchise. And in 2021, War For The Planet Of The Apes directed is poised to achieve the same feat. The Batman is set to take us back to the early years of Bruce Wayne, played by the increasingly impressive Robert Pattinson, fresh off gripping chiller The Lighthouse. And the supporting cast is immense: Paul Dano is The Riddler, Colin Farrell is The Penguin, Zoe Kravitz is Catwoman, Jeffrey Wright is James Gordon and Andy Serkis is Alfred.
12. Turning Red
Disney-Pixar returns with an offbeat coming-of-age story. A teenage girl finds she can transform into a giant red panda in the feature film debut of Bao creator Domee Shi.
13. Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore
Eddie Redmayne's brave magizoologist Newt Scamander is back in the third instalment of the Warner Bros fantasy franchise. The Harry Potter prequel series continues (absent Johnny Depp as evil Grindelwald) with J.K. Rowling once again co-writing the script with Steve Kloves. Behind the camera: David Yates, who has helmed the first two Fantastic Beasts movies.
